"Get Outdoors on the Suffolk Seaboard Coastline Trail"
One of my favorite places to enjoy the outdoors in Hampton Roads area of SE Virginia is the Suffolk Seaboard Coastline Trail in Suffolk, Virginia. On one of my visits, I was able to capture beautiful fall like weather which was perfect for a long power walk and to stop to capture the pristine beauty.
Presently at 3.4 miles in length point to point (6.8 miles round trip), the multi-use trail system spans from the Driver area of Suffolk to Bromay Rd. on the Suffolk/Chesapeake border (just off Pughsville Rd close to I-664). From the news article in Suffolk News Herald 2/8/16: “But this is just the beginning for this attraction. The bigger plan is to finish the 11.1-mile trail as part of the South Hampton Roads Trail, a project that will allow non-motorists to travel 41 miles from downtown Suffolk to the Virginia Beach oceanfront.” The next phase of the trail further is planned further into Suffolk with another 1.3 miles ending at Nansemond River High School.
There is small parking lots at both trail heads along with port a potties, water, bike stations & pet waste disposal cans. There is a crosswalk/crossing at the crossing over Shoulder Hills Road. The expansive trail follows the former Suffolk Coastal Railroad.
There are always people/families running, walking & cycling during my visits. What I enjoy about this trail system is the quiet and peacefulness to where you can just enjoy nature and “the views”. The views on the trail include the beauty of the tall trees of many varieties, various waterways, vast farmland with crops growing during season & some housing developments in the far distance. There is always a different view the further you go along the trail. As the leaves begin to turn later in the fall, the fall foliage of the trees along the trail are simply beautiful.
This multi use 10 foot wide trail is paved and flat so it is perfect for running, walking and cycling. It is a wonderful place to observe the wildlife and seasonal growth of wildflowers and various trees as they start to bloom in the spring to the changing colors in the fall. The views in the winter when the trees have lost their leaves gives a whole different perspective and openness to enjoying the trail.
I encourage you to visit our wonderful trail system and see all that Suffolk has to offer for the outdoor enthusiast!
