Rays Of Light - Sunrise to Sunset
Capturing sunrises and sunsets where ever I travel is one of my most favorite things to do. Each one is different depending upon the season. Every sunrise and sunset emits emotions of the start of a new day or the ending of a blessed day.
Suffolk Virginia sunrises in my backyard are forever changing. My favorites in the photos below are the sun’s lights reflections of colors as the storm clouds are moving away.
Sunsets in the Outer Banks are always amazing. In the photo below from 4th of July 2014 in Corolla, North Carolina, my son and his friend were enjoying skim boarding as the sun was setting to west and the reflections of the passing storm clouds reflected a kaleidoscope of hues of yellow, grey, silver and blue.
Recently on a trip to Alexandria, Virginia, I was able to capture this calming sunset photo in Old Town Alexandria as the sun was setting behind the George Washington Masonic National Memorial with the backdrop of a clear sky.
In January 2019, this sunrise and sunset view from my hotel across the plains in Alliance, Nebraska were stunning. There is something about the wide open spaces of the panhandle of Nebraska that allows the pictures to burst with color thanks to mother nature.
Sunsets along the Elizabeth River in Norfolk, Virginia are the perfect opportunity for a picture perfect view. Watching the sunset from Town Point Park in Downtown Norfolk in the summer will bring the incredible fire orange colors as the sun sets across the horizon. If you have an opportunity to attend an evening event on the grounds of the Hermitage Museum & Gardens can offer you a picturesque sunset with the shipping terminal cranes as the back drop.
Sunset photos from the top of Mount Sequoyah in Fayetteville Arkansas are simply breathtaking. When the lights of the cross are illuminated against the back drop of the sun setting over the valley is magical.
All through out the Hampton Roads region of Virginia there are rivers, streams and tributaries that create ever changing opportunities for a sunset view. These 3 photos below of sunset on the James River in Newport News, sunset on the Pagan River at Smithfield Station in Smithfield, and an Elizabeth RIver marina view in Portsmouth all illuminate with such a variety of colors and reflections on their river sunsets that make them each so unique and beautiful.
One of my all time favorite places to capture a sunset in Northwest Arkansas is along the lake behind Village on the Creeks in Rogers, Arkansas. In 2018, I was able to witness an amazing sunrise with the geese in the lake as the sun began to rise behind the Cross monuments by Cross Church. In the evening, the sunsets were the most vivid reds and oranges as the sun would set over the lake.
Thanksgiving 2017 provided a unique winter sunset from the rooftop bar, the Grain, in the Norfolk Hilton THE MAIN. With the downtown Norfolk skyline in the forefront and the cotton candy colors reflected on the clouds as the sun was setting to the west over the Elizabeth River.
Summer sunsets over the Currituck Sound in the Outer Banks of North Carolina are always a fierce display of colors. The photos display the way a sunset in Duck, North Carolina changed colors so drastically from bright yellow and oranges to deep reds after a strong storm pushed through. Other evening sunsets when the weather is calm and the skies are clear or with a few clouds, the sunsets still vary in so many different vibrant colors.
Sunrises in Southern Shores, North Carolina along the Outer Banks is the perfect way to start the morning, These photos taken on 3 different days in August 2019 shows the intensity and the brightness or softness of the rays of light are ever changing.
I am blessed in the region I live in Northern Suffolk, Virginia the sunsets over the Nansemond River are ever changing. Many people enjoy sitting on the park bench to watch the sunset or stroll down the pier to capture the view. Sometimes the wildlife of the seagulls will make a perfect photo opportunity.
The sunsets are so simplistic across Burbage Lake in Northern Suffolk, Virginia where I live. I encourage everyone to go outside and watch the sunrise or sunset and capture mother natures picture perfect views.
